In 1881, construction of Mineral Wells’ third water well gave rise to the phrase “Crazy Water,” turning it into an instant attraction.
The Crazy Water Hotel was later built on the same site in 1912. Following a destructive fire in 1925, the hotel was reconstructed in 1927 by Carr Collins for $1,000,000.
The Crazy Water Hotel featured over 200 guest rooms, a spacious lobby, and indoor pavilion, which today features The Shops at the Crazy.
Notable guests include Conrad Hilton, a guest at the grand opening of the Hotel; D.W. Griffith, Judy Garland, General John J. Pershing, Mary Martin, Spanky McFarland, Tom Mix, Bob Wills, Machine Gun Kelly (the original), and Bonnie and Clyde.
